Pain that throbs, lingers, or keeps you up at night is often a sign of deep decay or infection. Swelling in your gums or face needs quick attention, since an infection can spread. Your dentist uses digital X-rays to find the source of the problem, then walks you through the right treatment, which may include a tooth-colored filling, a root canal to save an infected tooth, a crown, or an extraction when a tooth can’t be saved.
Emergency Dental Care in San Antonio
A toothache, a cracked tooth, or sudden swelling can throw off your whole day. At Lee Dental Centers, our team focuses on getting you out of pain first, then explains what’s going on and how to fix it. With four locations across the San Antonio area, help is close to home, work, or school.
Emergency care is for anyone with pain, an injury, or a dental problem that can’t wait for a routine visit. That includes every member of your family, from a child who chipped a tooth at practice to an adult whose crown came loose at dinner. Call your nearest office as soon as you notice a problem.

Broken, Chipped & Knocked-Out Teeth
Sports, falls, and hard foods can crack or chip a tooth without warning. Prompt care protects the healthy part of the tooth and lowers the chance of needing a bigger repair later. Depending on the damage, your dentist may repair a small chip with a tooth-colored composite filling or restore a larger break with a porcelain crown. A knocked-out tooth has the best chance of being saved when you call right away.

Emergency Dental Care FAQs
Severe or lasting tooth pain, swelling in your gums or face, a broken or knocked-out tooth, bleeding that won’t stop, and a lost filling or crown all count. If you’re unsure, call our office and our team will help you decide how soon to be seen.
Rinse with warm water, gently floss to remove anything stuck between your teeth, and take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed. Avoid placing aspirin on your gums, since it can burn the tissue. Then call us to schedule an exam.
Pick the tooth up by the top, avoiding the root. If it’s dirty, rinse it gently without scrubbing. Try to place it back in the socket, or keep it in a cup of milk, and get to a dentist within an hour for the best chance of saving it.
Yes. Swelling often means an infection that needs treatment soon. If swelling comes with a fever, trouble breathing, or trouble swallowing, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911 right away, then follow up with your dentist.
Use our After Hours Dental Emergency Line, available evenings and weekends. Through an online consultation, you can get an emergency evaluation and a prescription for pain or swelling when needed, then follow up at one of our offices.
An emergency room can help manage pain and infection, but most can’t repair the tooth itself. Go to the ER for a jaw injury, heavy bleeding, or swelling that affects your breathing. For most tooth problems, a dentist can treat the cause directly.
Save the crown if you can, and avoid chewing on that side. Dental cement from a pharmacy can temporarily cover the tooth or hold the crown in place. Call our office soon, since an exposed tooth can become sensitive or decay further.
Yes. As a family practice, Lee Dental Centers cares for patients of all ages, from toddlers to seniors. If your child has a toothache or a dental injury, call our office and let our team know what happened.
You can still get care. Our Dental Passport savings plan offers discounts of up to 50% on many services with no waiting period, and we offer financing through Cherry and CareCredit to help spread out the cost of treatment.
Keep up with cleanings and exams every six months so small problems are caught early. Wear a mouthguard during sports, avoid chewing ice or hard candy, and never use your teeth to open packages or bottles.
